Most gold EAs that look too good share one design: they never take a loss, they postpone it. This page explains how grid and martingale robots work, does the arithmetic of a single gold spike, and compares them – plainly – with how Gold Scalpers Pro handles the same market. We sell Gold Scalpers Pro, so check every claim against the reports.
How grid and martingale EAs work
A grid EA opens another position every time price moves a set distance against it. A martingale also multiplies the lot size each time. When price turns back a little, the whole basket closes in profit. Nearly every trade “wins”, the balance curve rises in a straight line, and the losses sit unrealised in open positions.
The maths of one gold spike
Gold moves in dollars. On one standard lot, every $1 move is about $100. Take a martingale that starts at 0.01 lot and doubles every $3 against it:
| Level | Lot added | Total lots held | Price against the first entry |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0.01 | 0.01 | $0 |
| 2 | 0.02 | 0.03 | $3 |
| 3 | 0.04 | 0.07 | $6 |
| 4 | 0.08 | 0.15 | $9 |
| 5 | 0.16 | 0.31 | $12 |
| 6 | 0.32 | 0.63 | $15 |
| 7 | 0.64 | 1.27 | $18 |
After seven levels the robot holds 1.27 lots, and every further $1 against it costs about $127. An $18 move is an ordinary news hour for gold. A $30 move – not rare on CPI or FOMC days – leaves a small account no room at all. That is the cliff in every martingale curve.
What Gold Scalpers Pro does instead
- One entry per signal, with a stop loss set at market structure when the order is sent.
- Losses are taken, small and visible. In its latest test month the average loss was $11.40 at 0.01 lot, the largest $25.35.
- No adding to losers. Optional pyramiding only adds to winners and ships off.
- Hard account limits: a 16% drawdown stop, a 10% warning, a daily trade cap and Prop-Firm Mode.
The price of that honesty: its curve is not smooth. It has losing days and a losing four-month stretch in its eight-month backtest (see the results page).
Side by side
| Gold Scalpers Pro | Typical grid / martingale gold EA | |
|---|---|---|
| Stop loss | On every trade, from the start | Often none, or very far away |
| Positions at once | Usually 1, capped by MaxOpenPositions (4) | Many, growing in a move |
| Lot after a loss | Unchanged | Larger |
| Balance curve | Steps up, with visible drops | Straight line |
| Worst case | A stopped-out trade; the drawdown stop pauses the day | Margin call |
| Prop-firm daily limit | Enforced by Prop-Firm Mode | Usually breached on the first big move |
How to spot a grid EA from its listing
- Read the full report, not the screenshot. Compare the average loss with the average win. A martingale shows tiny wins and rare, enormous losses – or no closed losses at all in a short test.
- Compare balance and equity curves. A straight balance line with deep equity dips means losses are being carried, not taken.
- Check maximum open positions and lot growth in the inputs and in the trade list.
- Test the worst months, not the last month. Run the EA through a big news period on real ticks.
- Distrust 90%+ win rates with no stop loss mentioned.
The same checklist applies to Gold Scalpers Pro – backtest it yourself before you buy.

FAQ
Why do martingale gold EAs have such smooth equity curves?
Because they hide losing trades by adding bigger positions instead of closing them. Small wins keep printing until a move is large enough that the stacked positions cannot recover, and the account loses months of gains in hours.
How do I know if an EA uses a grid or martingale?
Look for no stop loss, many positions open at once, lot sizes that grow after a loss, an average loss far larger than the average win in the full report, and a balance curve that is perfectly straight while the equity curve dips deeply.
Is Gold Scalpers Pro a grid EA?
No. It opens one entry per signal with a stop loss set at market structure when the order is sent. Its optional pyramiding only adds to winning trades and ships switched off.
What is the difference between the free Gold Scalpers EA and Gold Scalpers Pro?
The free edition is a simpler EMA 9/21 crossover EA with a 50 EMA trend filter and a hard stop. Pro adds the M5 Slope / 50 EMA system, structure stops, session and news filters, Prop-Firm Mode, the drawdown warning, the dashboard and the AI news reader.
